If you haven’t noticed, I often use 2 different types of rubrics. One is a student project sheet that serves double duty and the other is just a classic rubric.
WHY?
Student Project Sheet
- Holds students accountable and lets them know what they need to complete.
- Usually grades based on just completion so it’s a fairly easy grade.
Classic Rubric
- Grades more on the quality of the work
WHEN TO USE WHICH?
In most cases, I use both and just have each project count as two grades or I average the two grades together as one.
I use the student project sheet alone specifically for when you want the students to complete a project or activity in which there is basically no room for error.
I hardly ever use the classic rubric alone because the project sheet serves more than one purpose.
