Another Monthly Activity for May!

Remember, May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month!  No wonder this is when most elementary schools have their field days.  So, why not have your own and turn it into and entire unit with the following activities!

A great project to incorporate this special month into your lesson is FACS Field Day!  I usually do several activities and a lecture for this unit but the best part comes at the end.

  • 1st, I have the students track their eating and exercise habits for one week.  We use this to evaluate whether or not they are active enough and are eating a variety according to MyPyramid!
  • 2nd, each day during class we do some sort of physical exercise to show them that sometimes exercise can be fun.  We did Taebo, Line dancing, walked the track, played basketball, and soccer.  (usually around 30-45 minutes)

During this time, they were also working on the “Work it Out” project.  The day after presentations we had our “FACS Field Day!”  To get prepared for this field day, I allowed the students to get into teams and create team shirts as well!  I even treated the class to an Ice Cream Sundae Buffet afterwards.

What better way to end the school year than with a FACS Field Day!!!
