About Me

Hi, my name is Takeebie Jefferson and I am a family and consumer science teacher.  Now, I am no expert and am not even considered a veteran, however I do have a real passion for teaching FACS.  I have been teaching for 7 years in middle school and high school settings.  I don’t know whether this is a good or bad thing, but over those 7 years, I have taught in 5 different schools due to my husband being military.  I will say that it has been a very unique, challenging but rewarding experience since I have had the opportunity to work at different types of schools and with students of several different socioeconomic statuses and backgrounds.

My main purpose for creating this site is to provide an invaluable resource mainly for FACS teachers due to the lack of resources available.  But I also recommend sharing it with teachers of other subjects as well if they are looking for more creative ways of teaching their subjects and becoming more integrated with their CTE programs.  I know the difficulty of being a FACS teacher all too well and I feel that any little thing that will make this position easier and less time demanding will be greatly appreciated.   I’m hoping that this resource will help free up more of your time to be more creative and produce an environment to help better prepare our students for the real world.

Here at Just FACS you will find all types of resources ready to go and implement in your classroom, so feel free to use and tell others about the site as well.  Also, please feel free to make any suggestions and voice your opinions and/or needs.  This site is for us FACS professionals so let your voices be heard.  I am only here to serve you, work with you, and inspire you.  I will definitely be chatting with you soon.

  1. I have enjoyed viewing this website. It has many resources that I can and will use in the future. I am a Certified FACS teacher as well and enjoy teaching FACS. It is the one subject that encompasses both academics and electives in one area.

  5. Takeebie,

I love you site and ideas. I have already make a binder for classroom management and lesson plans. What a clever idea. Our school, like many, are on the pathway of become more tech savy. How did you develop your website and what host do you use. I have been trying to develop one through google and I struggle with it. I thought you might know of a user friendly source. Our school is really pushing us to go paperless and the class website would be so helpful for this reason. I am comfortable using most programs but want to be able to put my own detail on it like you have been doing. Any suggestions?

    Thanks so much!

    1. Try Weebly. It’s a very user-friendly, free site. You can upgrade if you like for a nominal fee, but I found I could set up, add pictures, projects, etc. very easily!

  7. Hi,

I just finished viewing your website and I think it is awesome. I’ve been looking for some ways to spice up my curriculum and you have really made my day. What are waterbabies and how do you use them? Thanks for all of your help. I’m going to pass this along to other FACS teachers in my area (Savannah, GA). I probably missed this but what city do you teach? Are we near each other?

  8. I just like to share an event that orginated from watching Top Chef on the Food Network. My FCCLA Club will host our 1st Student Chef competition this weekend(5/21/11). This contest will serve as both a fundraiser and a way to boost the FACS program here at Walker High school. I will give an update next week to give all the details and how the event played out.

  18. Hello Takeebie,

Quick question, a couple of years ago June 7, 2013 to be exact I purchased your appetizers/bell ringers, throughout my move to Maryland and while in Maryland over the past two years, I seem to have misplaced it, I was wondering if I had to repurchase it again 🙁 I know that may be asking a lot, but if I could get it in an electronic form that would be ever so thoughtful and if not, I could wholeheartedly understand that as well, as you are running a business. Just thought I would ask. Thanks, Kyshia Wynn Simmons – kyshia.wynn@gmail.com

  19. I am using your website for ideas to teach young adults with autism. Thank you for the information. will be happy to share what I do with you to see if we could collaborate to develop curriculum for my students. Thank you.

  20. Hi, love your site. I’m a first year FACS teacher all over again…took a 14 year hiatus and now I find myself teaching a sewing class …never taught that. I’ve taken a couple quick classes but I have 0 confidence at this point and we are 2 weeks out….I’m so stressed….any thoughts or ideas would be so appreciated!

    1. Hi Jody. Start out with the basics and definitely find a way to incorporate technology, such as having the students make basic sewing skill tutorial videos.

  21. Hi! I have been teaching FACS- Education cluster for 9 years now and I just need a pick me up. I need to spice up the learning in my classroom. Things are great when in the pre, school environment but I am looking for new ways to teach/introduce/assess/etc the specific everyday academic lessons when preschoolers on not present. I don’t want to just stand up there and speak, show power points, etc. I want my students to go further in their learning, engage, learn how to learn, have the desire to learn more, to take ownership of their learning. HELP

    1. I guess I should have added the fact that I am the high school FACS- Family and Child Care Development teacher as well as the preschool director and lead teacher in our high school laboratory. So my comment above refer to my high school students. I want to reach them in different ways when teaching about families, parenting, birth defects, pregnancy, child birth, STD’s, observing children…the list goes on. Thanks for your help

  22. I am so glad I came across your website this morning. I am currently mentoring a new FACS teacher who by the way is awesome and extremely motivated to do well. She was able to enter the profession because of her life/work experiences in the food and textile industry. She has no teaching background or training. Since our school district could not find a trained FACS teacher they decided to give her a go. They are going to be so happy they did! Your site will definitely help her organize her ideas into great lessons. Again, thank you so much for posting such great resources.

  23. I just came across your site and am so thankful! Our school does not have a FACS program, but I am the Agricultural Education instructor and am certified to teach a Food Science course. I am just trying it for the first time this semester because our kids REALLY want FACS type classes. Thanks for sharing materials – this will be so helpful!

    1. Thank you and let me know if there is any other way I can be of assistance.

  24. Thank you for sharing all these great resources! Do you have a key for the cooking terms worksheet?

  25. So very excited that I came upon your site. Thank you to both you and your husband! This is incredible what you have done and I truly commend you!

  26. Hi there,
Can you share the google lab form with my email at jacqueline.brown@acsgmail.net; I have it come up and no way to make a copy.

I also bought the majorkitchen/appliance timeline. Would you mind emailing me the word copy so I could edit. It would be awesome. I blog at cougarkitchen.org and I’m a high school foods teacher. Thank you for sharing your resources!
